Braxton Bragg was hard to like to like to put it mildly. He argued with himself, almost got fragged and very unloved by his troops.

So, in the hypothetical, could Bragg's reputation be softened enough to say, unfortunately higher office?

IMHO, no. Say he had lived loger with presidential aspirations or looking for seat in congress I seriously doubt it. On p
impression alone.

I don't recall seeing that Bragg had any personal aspirations beyond his military career. Even as a young officer, he made clear he was disinclined to make the personal connections with fellow officers or superiors that would seem to be a common feature of politicians....

There were those who felt Bragg was not crude or boorish in his application of such sentiments, but generally the gentleman about it, no matter how cool.

William T. Sherman, a personal friend of Bragg's noted at the formation of the Confederacy in early 1861 that Bragg was similarly disinclined to butter up Jeff Davis in any personal manner.

Bragg being ordered drink freaks me out. I've never needed orders.

I didn't know Sherman wad a friend. I see Bragg as almost a John Adams. Correct and knew it. Bit I've just thinking 'who would the opposite number be' so I'm way out there.
