Plum Run Then and Now

My inspiration to come to Gettysburg for the first time back in 1994 was to try to locate and photograph as many of the then and now photographs in William Frassanito's classic, "Journey in Time". My very first "discovery" occurred when I first parked in the Devil's Den parking area, looked down at Plum Run and BINGO! There was the same scene I had been studying for years right in front of me. The thrill I felt at that moment is a memory I shall never forget. From my first visit to my most recent and all those in between, my primary goal was to recreate as many Gettysburg then and nows as possible and reshoot them every trip always trying to improve on my matching images. Back in the 90's, I was still shooting with film so no digital images to show until my 2005 trip when I finally caught up with the technology. My very first then and now pic was the Plum Run location I mentioned. Every trip I reshoot this scene, so I put out together this collage showing the frame as it appeared during four subsequent visits. In the bottom image, I am holding up Gardner's photo of this very scene.

I did not take my own photos, but my first trip to Gettysburg was with my dog-eared copy of Frassanito in hand and my first stop was Devil's Den. I experienced The same emotions and the memory is still vivid. Another unforgettable moment was seeing the Round Tops come into view as I was approaching Gettysburg from the Emmitsburg Road. Thanks for sharing your memories and evoking mine.

I think that the beavers at the foot of LRT have something to do with that.

Ryan
I didn't know there were any beavers there. I was wondering why the stream was receding and then drying.
