Photosphere - Fort Sumter

After looking at this one, I'm not surprised at how hard a place it would be to take by amphibious invasion back in the day.

Fort Sumter was one of my favorite CW places to visit. We went over on an early boat and then stayed a few hours. After the boat leaves you have the place to yourself for about 30-40 minutes until the next boat arrives. Gives you an opportunity to get a real sense of the place. As for amphibious invasion, would even be tough today.

Thank you for the post. I really like the pictures that you can rotate and get a good sense of the actual size of the fort. Maybe it's just me but Sumter seems smaller when viewing these photos than what it does in drawings from the time period.

I felt the same way when I visited the island. It must have been a nightmare to have nowhere to go and to be under siege by either the Confederates at the beginning of the war, or the Union forces for over a year.
