Photo posting size question

When posting photos, is there a general size by dimension (inches by inches), file size (Mb or Kb) or will the system automatically resize? I will be posting jpg but the file size is quite large (converted RAW to jpg). I do not want to overwhelm the posting screen but still large enough to get a good look. Thanks.
If this and other questions need to be posted elsewhere, please feel free to move them and let me know the appropriate place.

@CivilWarTalk

I paged the boss, I don't know if their are size resrictions, but I do know that if once you have the photo in the thread, before you post, you can click the image and drag it to make it smaller - if you think it might be too big for what you need :D

I have had CWT reject photos for being too large. When that happens I resize them and re-insert. I don't know what the actual dimensions are though
