Don't think they have much yet with Union records from Kansas or Wisconsin ( probably find pension index cards ) If you've any Confederate ancestors or Unionists from southern states you can probably find their records here. Whole lot less expensive here then paying the National Archives to copy them for you !

I just got back from the National Archive, and found it amazingly easy to find my ancestor. Went through a microfilm of file cards relating to pension files; identified him by the name of his widow and minor child. Using the file numbers from that card pulled his file and two hours later I had the original documents in my hand! I know there's a lot of info on line, but because my ancestor's name was common, and I didn't know which unit he served in, I couldn't identify him by the online sources. The staff there was very helpful and knowledgeable. Good luck in your search.

Have you ordered the records from the Wisconsin Historical Society? They have much the same info as contained in the National Archives (service records, not pension records) and are much cheaper, $12 versus $25 for service records, if I remember correctly. I've used them for my three Wisconsin ancestors and have been happy with the results. I used them as an adjunct, not a replacement, for the National Archives; a good place to start.

Could you let us know your results? It's great to hear when our members get new info on their ancestors.
