Pension Card Question

I was researching a grandfather - John h. Allen and in looking over his pension card it seems a bit odd. The image information on the card indicates that the conflict was the Civil War and he was union. The dates and unit number seem to tie to the Spanish American conflict and the card is stamped "War with Spain" under additional service. Were these conflicts lumped together in records or should I be searching for previous service in the Union Army - thus far haven't spotted any.

Here is the link for the card - apologies I'm still struggling with downloading complete images from fold3.

Thanks,

Glen

The dates show he enlisted and was discharged in 1898 so that's definitely not Civil War.

If you look at the link you posted you can see the records group is fir service between 1861 and 1900. The vast majority of those were CW veterans but not all.

Do you have any idea with what unit he may have served with during the CW?

So probably just an issue of how the records were grouped.

John Winn - sorry I have to figure out how to pull the images into my laptop and then attach them I'll work on it.

Here's the card in question:

Enlisted 20 May 1898,Co. M, 2nd N.C. Inf.; discharged November 7. To find if he actually got into action, you need to check the history of his regiment.
It was a short war. That's a typical enlistment.
Looks like no Civil War service.

PS: to download from fold3, click the crossed hammer/wrench icon (upper right), the Download link is there.
