Hello everyone,

I visited the PA State Memorial yesterday. I noticed that several of the names on the bronze tables that surround the base have been removed or rubbed away in a professional manner (i.e. not via vandalism).

Some look like that they have been sandblasted away and others look rubbed away to the smooth surface.

Is there a reason this was done?

Regards,
Mark

Thanks for the greeting. I wonder if the names were removed after research showed the soldiers deserted, weren't actually part of the battle, etc.

I recall being told that the names were removed when research showed the soldier was not present.

A belated Welcome! Interesting question. Planning visit Gettysburg this weekend. Will stop at the PA and notice the vacant spots. Wonder who they removed?
