I'm thinking of making a day-trip from Charlotte to see and snap some pics the Pee Dee guns in Florence, SC at the VA building. I was wondering if there is anything else I should check out, CW related, either in Florence or along the route to and from Charlotte? As food is the fuel, any restaurants one would recommend in Florence? Perhaps BBQ-centric restaurants...?

There are several interesting threads about those cannons on this forum. Having never been to that area I really can't say or do any recommending of local establishments. But do take a camera. That should be a most interesting trip. I don't have a map of S.C.handy,but will you be anywhere near Charleston?

If I kept going south from Florence for about another 2 hours, yeah, I'd plow right into Charleston. Though that's a bit outside of the scope for this trip. Yes, will most certainly have my DSLR plus my camera phone. It's two Brooke rifles (6.4 and a 7.0") and a smoothbore Dahlgren IX?

I realize that cemeteries and prison sites are not everybody's cup of tea, but there is apparently a walking trail around the site of Florence Stockade, and a National Cemetery nearby with the (mostly unmarked) remains of thousands of POWs who died there.

Actually that site in general has some good options (even for eating), so thanks for that. Had intended to go this past Saturday but it didn't work out, so more looking like this coming Saturday.

Just a follow up to nearly a year ago, images I took when I went to Florence SC to check out the PeeDee's guns:

The PeeDee's props weren't accessible as the history museum was closed (Sunday).
