Through the courtesy and hospitality of New Yorker, I had the opportunity to visit the grave of my GGGrandfather in Cypress Hills National Cemetery. Pat was so kind in offering my wife and I a ride to the cemetery from a train station. We would not have been able to navigate by ourselves and may have prevented many accidents by having him drive.

George Washington Liston, served in the 29th Virginia Infantry, was captured at Dinwiddie Court House on April 1, 1865. He was sent to Hart Island POW camp where he died in May of 1865 of Typhoid Fever. I was stunned by the emotions I felt standing at his grave—-I never knew him or had given him much thought—-wondering if I were the first family member to visit or had his wife and children attempted the trip? He was from Lebanon, VA over 600 miles from Brooklyn.

I have been extended Southern Hospitality by a very affable gentleman in New York! What a splendid gift to a traveler far from home!
Regards
David
