History Pavlova Cake

Last night on "Bizarre Foods Delicious Destinations" the host went to Australia. One of foods mentioned was Pavlova Cake. Many claim the origin of this dessert, including Australia, New Zealand and America.

Further research states that the cake was in several forms since 1800s in America, Britain and other parts of Europe. In America in 1911 there was recipe called "Strawberries Pavlona.

Thought some of members from Australia and New Zealand could comment on this dessert. Also Germans have a torte that is very similar and would appreciate any comments from our German members on this torte.

I had never seen or heard of a Pavlova Cake until it was a challenge on The Great British Bake-off. Here's a video on how to make one from one of the judges of the baking contest.

I taped the show last night but have not had the time to watch it yet.should be interesting.
