I went for a stroll around Pasadena CA (the new home for my son who lives here now) and we came across this in the Memorial Park. A cool find.

The plaque reads:

"ERECTED BY THE CITIZENS OF PASADENA TO PERPETUATE THE MEMORY OF THE DEFENDERS OF THE UNION 61 TO 65"

Where in Pasadena is Memorial Park? I will be down there in mid-May for my son #2's wedding. (At age 53 he finally decided to take the plunge!)

Interesting photos with the Fan Palms in the background. You won't find too many photos of Civil War monuments with those in them!

Nice photos, PeterT!

California has an unexpectedly rich Civil War history, by the way. A little ways from Pasadena, in Westwood, is the Los Angeles National Cemetery - there are 10,000 Civil War veterans buried there. (There is also the un-CW Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery, which is located right smack dab in the middle of downtown! An alley, as a matter of fact...but it contains some really famous celebrities.)

They also had 4 regiments that fought with the Army of the Potomac.

The figure on the memorial is very similar to one on the Massachusetts State Monument in Grant Circle at Vicksburg and this one in Winchester National Cemetery, Virginia:
