I saw this announcement regarding Pamplin Park on Facebook
Does anyone know anything about this? I loved visiting Pamplin Park.

Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier will be open by appointment only beginning on February 12, 2024 with the exception of special events, and groups of 10 or more are invited to schedule tours, educational programs or facility rentals seven days a week. This closure to walk-ins will impact some special events and includes the cancellation of the 30th Anniversary Gala which was to be held on February 23, 2024.
Those who wish to book groups of 10 or more, educational programs or inquire and book facility rentals can call (804) 861-2408 or email [email protected]. More information is also available for groups on the park's website at www.pamplinpark.org.
The new restricted hours of operation is part of an overall reorganization of the park. A comprehensive plan has been designed to transform and bolster Pamplin Historical Park to address rising operational costs, while emerging to preserve this Historical Landmark and to continue as a leading educational and historical destination in the nation.
While Pamplin Historical Park is undergoing this transformation, we invite individuals to attend the park's special events and symposium. Current Pamplin Historical Park members and Dinwiddie County Residents only can continue to enjoy walking the park's trails by checking-in and parking at 6619 Duncan Rd., Petersburg, VA 23803 between 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday.
For more information, to book an educational program or facility rental and to view a full list of special events, visit www.pamplinpark.org or watch for postings on the park's social media channels.

Was in Petersburg this past weekend. Knowing I was going to be there I called and emailed them in advance of my trip and never heard back. They must be serious about only groups.

I believe one of the newer trails that starts across the street from fort fisher actually runs into Pamplin.

It's a bummer altogether but the relics can be moved, the land hopefully will remain preserved.

That's the breakthrough trail it's open I think. I thought the trust owned part of that but I could be wrong

They don't want individual people they only want school groups or large groups. I, not very confident that whatever big idea they have to turn things around will work.
Like we discerned previously it takes more than school visits to make a big place like that run. I have noticed they have been having public events some weekends. It makes good sense to scale back if they are trying to save money.

Kathy, is just the museum closed or are the trails also closed? I've been thinking about going up there but I'd like to know what's open beforehand. Thanks!

When I was there two weeks ago, all the entrances were blocked and couldn't get into the property. As I mentioned I thought there was a trail that links into that land that starts well south and eat by fort fisher. It's actually the trail that goes to Ft Welch. I didn't walk the entire line because it's long and I was alone and would have had to double back to my car. It's a few miles one way, so pretty long and I didn't have the time. So there may be a way in but it's not through the Pamplin Park grounds. And this was a Saturday.

That's the breakthrough trail I believe and if I recall correctly that is all owned by Pamplin Park. It's a real shame they own it and preserve it but basically nobody can see it because of their business model.
