Opinions Please

Its hard to say as they were in business till way after the CW. The style IMHO is post war.

It is an authentic Civil War piece and sold for $3125 at the auction mentioned, with the juice. Paging @Ralph Heinz for confirmation. This is most likely one of the 1,300 contracted pieces on Jan 7 & Oct 20th 1864; the loop may have been added as to that particular bugler's preference.
Thank you for your opinion, LP. May I ask how decided that this piece is Civil War period? I ask because I would like to learn how to make informed judgments about these items myself.

The company in question only had military contracts during the war, it would be very doubtful that there were many post war contracts issued as there was an incredible amount of surplus. One aspect of determining the authenticity, is the two piece bell together with the standard bugle specification. There are many so called Civil War bugles that are Spanish American War or even Boy Scout vintage, these have a single piece bell, but are in the same configuration.

Congratulations on the book!

Thank you very much for the information, and the compliment.
