I think it's good. The fakes have steel or brass wire to attach it to the cartridge box but the real ones have iron. Even though they are broken it can clearly be seen that they are made of iron. I'm still not 100% sure but I'm leaning towards good.

I just asked the seller and am curious to see what he says as far as provenance. One thing I notice is the shape of the letters compared to known authentic buckles. On the real ones I've seen the bottom part of the C comes up higher and the serifs aren't as pronounced as this plate. I did think the face to be chemically altered at first too and saw that reproduction plates have the same font. It could obviously just be a different die. I like the back but not so much the front. I wonder what we will find out. I stand corrected and learned an important lesson on confederate buckles from ucvrelics, ray charles and checking my books!

I'm a bit confused as I thought we were not supposed to be posting photos of copyrighted items. So I tend to cite the book and page number for reference without showing a photo. But more and more I am seeing full page photos from copyrighted books here. Can someone clarify the policy regarding photos from reference books?

I'm sorry, I had the moderator take down my pictures. I wasn't aware of any violation but figured that not everyone is going to have the reference book and they won't know any of the information we talk about on particular pages or references without the picture. It makes it difficult to share anything with anyone that has questions or concerns. Is there a way around it maybe? Should it be shared in private or not at all?

I believe he was referring to the comment in the post above that comment and not yours, post #5
I can also erase my post about thanking certain people if anyone finds it offensive. I was only playing along with ucvrelics. I myself have a condition called hydrocephalus so I can see if someone has similar impairments they would take offense. I joke about my own impairments but still don't mean to offend anyone.

Doesn't bother me any, I got it, I just think the other guy thought it was directed at him, covering for my pal @ucvrelics

UPDATE: Seller claims that he's selling for a friend and it was dug in Johnson city TN but I have an idea of where he really pulled it from. 🤣
