Good morning and thank you for letting me jump aboard. I have a firearm that has been in the family for a long time. This was.. my wife's grandfather's. I've been getting misleading information and i'm hoping you guys can set it straight.

A Model 1873"Trapdoor" Springfield. A Civil War era rifle converted after the war by the US Government to fire a .45-70 cartridge.

Welcome, enjoy. Indeed a recycled 1863 muzzle loader of .58 cal. converted after the war to a trapdoor breech loader
