Uniforms Older Uniform Reference Books.

Tonight I was moving some uniform reference books and looked over this one.

This book came out in 1988 and is getting a bit old, but it is still fairly nice. There are 16 Union uniforms in full color and 7 Confederate uniforms in full color. The author and artist stuck with well known uniforms and this reference work has limit value. Darby Erb did a good job with the art works. There is a great deal of uniform information, and like I said the color uniform plates are very nice. Over all, not a terrible book.

If you like Gregory J.W. Urwin's infantry book you can add his cavalry book with 12 Union uniforms and 7 Confederate uniforms.

this book came out in 1983 and is similar to the infantry book. The color uniform plates by Ernest Lisle Reedstrom are nice and his style is similar to Darvy Erd's uniform plates.

I have this too , but the Irish brigade uniform on page 99 is now considered inaccurate . I used this book and various Osprey books as guides to paint miniatures back in the day .

Those would be good painting references because the shading on the figures is not so extreme that it would confuse a figure painter.

Both the books brought back memories I had forgot all about I had looked though and read both of them when I was younger

I remember my high school library had the US Cavalry book, which I looked at a few times.
