Lets see what everybody got for Christmas. I got an AWESOME book from my dear friend @redbob Thanks Bob. If you don't have this book you need to get a copy. Its 600 pages of the history of relic hunting in Va and tons of photos.

My BIG present was getting everything finished out at my new river property and being able to spend my first Christmas at Fort Fukit as I have affectionately named it. Got a special place for my 1841 6lb field gun on the river bank. I had the place all lite up for the Holidays and had one Heck of a Festivus party:cold::confused:. Now I can get the log cabin built hopefully in the early spring. Hope everyone has a Happy New Year.

Very nice Christmas decorations! Also I love the shot of the cannon firing. Very cool!

No relics for me this Christmas, instead I got a new book! I'm still not very knowledgeable about the general history of the war, so this should be a good starter for me.

For non-civil war related gifts, I had the choice between this handmade spanish navaja fighting knife made in toledo or an M1868 Bavarian Raupenhelm:

Though I would have loved to add this beautiful raupenhelm to my collection, it was missing a few pieces and it would have been too much of an inconvenience for my aunt to bring it back from Munich. So, I chose the navaja, which I'm very grateful to have in my collection of blades!

That "Groundbreakers" book looks amazing! It reminds me of hours flipping through those time life Civil War books when I was a kid looking for original artifact pictures!!

Been looking for this for years but did not want to pay the high price and gave up on a reprint. Heck 1 guy on E Bay wanted $1000, others for over $300. Found one for about $260, made an offer and they came back with $199. It's in great condition. Wrapped and gave to the Wife to put under the tree for Me!
Ready for this one.....So I won a sword at an auction in Germany. An auction house I never used before and no it's not Hermann Historica (their great). I paid for it right away. Then they don't do in house shipping, pain in the neck! Go with who they recommended and paid them right away. Guess they figured the shipping costs right away. A month goes by, then nearing 6 weeks. Contact both of them as to what's the status. Shipper says their busy but will get to it later!!! THE GALL. Heck with that, call credit card and dispute. Got me credit ($) back and informed them of their unprofessionalism so keep the sword. 2 months later the day after Christmas a package from Germany arrives. We thought it might be from the Wife's relatives in Germany. Low and behold it's the friggen sword!!! If they want it back then they can come get it, I ain't paying the shipping to send it back. Santa Claus was looking out for me and stuck it to the Scrooge & Grinch. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

That's a great story :giggle:glad to see you actually got the sword in the end. That's partially what keeps me from using online auction houses is the lack of in-house shipping. It looks like you got a really cool collection, do you mind showing it off with a few pictures?

That's the Corp Of Engineers crane boat that services all the Locks we have up and down the river.
