I was half listening to and a quarter watching The History Channel thing on Gettysburg ghosts this morning. I heard them refer to a guide but couldn't tell how official he was.

Got me wondering........ I know that they have to pass a pretty tough test. Beyond that are they regulated in any way particularly when it comes to controversial subjects?

Not that I know of. Maybe someone with more insider knowledge than I can answer that. It would be good to know, since I am in the midst of several years of studying for that "pretty tough test."

Have no idea. And I never went into a guided tour at Gettysburg. That said, here is the youtube channel with the videos of guided tours by several Guides. Make your own conclusions.

Licensed Battlefield Guides, which may not be what you saw, aren't kept from handling controversial subjects, nor are they forced to have certain opinions; however, they represent the Gettysburg Foundation, and an NPS ranger is in charge of overall management. An LBG who gets numerous complaints will find themselves having to explain things and will probably get remedial training. If a guide is shown to be deficient and not willing or able to improved, they could lose their status.

There is no regulation of the ghost tour guides. They can pretty much make up whatever they want, and usually do.
