It looks as if the jacket was made that way. Probably early war. It is weird though. Also, they generally wore their clothes much tighter than we do today.

This is not a pre war uniform. The company received 9 button roundabout at the start of the war. Not sure when he received this uniform. Maybe a post war photo of a veteran?
Wondering if it a European uniform jacket. Nicholas Ziesse (pronounced 'TZEE-say') is probably a German, Swiss or Austrian immigrant. He might have been in a European Army and brought the jacket with him.
