Odd item - North Carolina or 7th Corps?

This odd little item is 30 cm across at its widest point, almost flat and appears to be pewter. The outer sunburst pattern is exactly what North Carolina used on their buttons, but the crescent moon and 5-point star (with dot in center) is similar to the design that the 7th Corps used. The item was dug at a Louisiana camp in Virginia.

It turns up just slightly along the edges and the extreme center is just a touch raised.

Any thoughts as to what it is and/or what military unit it actually went with?

"30 cm" ? or did you mean "30 mm", what does the back of the object look like ?
