As the weather gets cooler and is not so hot anymore it's a great time to go visit graves of soldiers, generals, your civil war ancestor, surgeons, and all other Civil War related personnel. I challenge you to visit one Civil War person the month of October and post the picture of that's person's grave on this thread. If you have a picture of the person during the time period post that with the grave picture. I think this will be a lot of fun for everyone and you can certainly learn about people you may have never heard of and see their grave.

There aren't any major Civil War celebrities buried here in South Texas. Not too many minor personalities either for that matter. Will Captains and Colonels be okay? But I will accept the challenge even if it has to be a private.

I am 445 miles. As far as going to a battlefield, Texas has few and far between. Palmito Ranch would be a good place to start. It's one thing to read about a war, it is a totally different thing to see it in person.

I agree that actually seeing the place far outweighs reading about it. I had the opportunity to visit Sabine Pass last year. But why Palmito Ranch? There aren't any grave sites or headstones there that I know of.Are there?

Not real sure of this guy. Nowhere on this headstone does it say he was a veteran but if thats a 1843 instead of a 1849 in his birthdate he'd be about the right age for a Civil War vet.The headstone is very "weathered" and I'm not sure.
