Uniforms NYMR

AM
Greetings, I have a question about the uniforms and equipment issued to the NY Mounted Rifles.
I am a dependent of a member of the 16th NY Artillery that transfered into the 1st NYMR in '64.
I know they served primarily as cavalry until consolidation in '65.
Thanks in advancece.
From what I gather, they had rather unique uniforms, they had the basic cavalry uniform with the exception of green tape where the yellow trim would normally be. They were on occasion regarded as a headquarters guard. Sharps carbine, M1860 Colt, both M1840 and M1860 cavalry saber.

Do you have a primary source for this?

As per Todd, "1st Regt Mounted Rifles (also called the 7th Cav. Regt), Initially issued US cav clothing trimmed with green lace. 1862-1863 Sharps carbine, Colt army revolver, M1840 and M1860 sabers. 1864, Spencer carbine.

Based on "initially issued", I am guessing the green trim was short lived, but Todd was unsure when uniforms with yellow trim was issued. Todd's research notes are in a library. For those unaware, Todd died before the books were completed and some friends in the Company of Military Historians finished his work for him.

I found this while researching the 1st NYMR the artist was a member of the unit. This IMO shows yellow trim.
I know a fatigue blouse is most common for most duties.
Thanks for the assistance.

I would infer from the "initially issued", that they were subsequently issued normal cav uniforms since it was doubtful the QM Division would put up with specialty unit issues. They were no longer mounted rifles, but a cav unit.......

You may find additional information if you can find: David E. Cronin's autobiography "The Evolution of a Life, described in the Memoirs of Major Seth Eyland late of the Mounted Rifles," (Seth Eyland was the pen name of Major David Cronin) relates his experiences as a Major in the First New York Mounted Rifles during the Civil War 1861-1865.

That was the "official" US Regular amounted Rifles, not NYMR. (My dad was in the 3rd Mtd Rifles (Brave Rifles) in the late 60s.) Prior to the ACW they existed as 1st US Mounted Rifles, but if memory serves were redesignated 3rd US Cav. in 62.
