November 4 is National Candy Day. This could be my favorite day, as there are so many candies I like to eat. The term candy began to be used in the late 13th century in Middle England. The term was used for a variety of sweets, including, candy bars, chocolate, licorice, sour candies, salty candies, hard candies, tart candies, taffies, gumdrops, marshmallows and more.

Before sugar, candy was made from honey. The honey was used to coat fruits and flowers to create a form of candy. Candy was originally a form of medicine. It was used to calm the digestive system or cool a sore throat.

The first candy to come to America was in the 18th century from Britain and France. The simplest form of candy was Rock Candy which is made from crystallized sugar. It was only available for the rich as sugar was very expensive. As sugar became more available, candy became available for all.

So to celebrate National Candy Day, have some of your favorite candy.

For some reason methinks that National Candy Day should be the day after Halloween, but I digress

I like two kinds of candy the best: chocolate and dissolve in your mouth sugary (think smarties, neeco wafers, etc). Nougat, marshmallow and chewy stuff not so much. I'd take toffee over taffy every day

I just try not to have the stuff around

We were in Savannah two weeks ago and we went to the Savannah Candy Company where we acted like a bunch of tourists and bought their pralines and divinity but what they make that makes them different is that that make those sugarary fruit slices.the different part is the flavors that they make.we bought key lime, mango, coconut, tangerine but the best flavor was pink grapefruit.i wish I had about a pound of them right now.

Have many favorites when it comes to candy! Most include chocolate or peanut butter and some include both. I try to keep my limit modest on these sweet treats.
Me too, I probably would have never discovered frozen chocolate if it weren't for hunting. As a youngster I would hunt all day in the bitter cold. Chocolate always gave be that boost of energy when I was dead tired so I would stuff my pockets with Hersey's with almond bars. They would freeze due to the cold and that was it from then on if I have one its in the freezer.

Always liked malted milk balls. When I was young my Granny and I would go to the movies once a week. I stayed with her in the summers. I always got malted milk balls as my snack and she always got popcorn. We would share. Liked the salty taste of popcorn followed by a malted milk ball.
Popcorn and malted milk balls was the standard at those old Saturday double features.

My weakness is Hershey's Chocolate with Almonds, but it has to be frozen. Yep, stick one in the freezer and I can't get my mind off of it until it's gone. :hungry:
Wow, @War Horse, I thought I was the only person in the world who ate their Hershey Chocolate Bars frozen! Before freezing, I break it into bite size pieces.:hungry:
