"Faces in the Crowd" from Gardner photographs of the National Cemetery Dedication in Gettysburg 159 years ago today. The top photo is focused on five soldiers, all striking a similar pose and all looking at Gardner's camera. This is a highly magnified crop from the one photo in which Lincoln has been positively identified. On the bottom left is an interesting looking character looking right up at Gardner's elevated camera. This smiling fella is decked out in his top hat, shirt and coat, walking stick, and check out those plaid pants.
On the right is a blurry image of a young boy that you are probably wondering why I included him. Well, it turns out that Andrew Basiago has claimed that in 1972 he was transported in time back to this day and that he was photographed among the crowd as a young boy, shown here. Basiago claimed that when he got there, he had no shoes, so he ended up with a pair far too large. And sure enough, if you look closely, it does appear the boy's shoes are much too large. I suspect that is why this alleged chrono Naut picked this individual as his character-it fit his narrative.
