"Faces in the Crowd" from Gardner photographs of the National Cemetery Dedication in Gettysburg 159 years ago today. The top photo is focused on five soldiers, all striking a similar pose and all looking at Gardner's camera. This is a highly magnified crop from the one photo in which Lincoln has been positively identified. On the bottom left is an interesting looking character looking right up at Gardner's elevated camera. This smiling fella is decked out in his top hat, shirt and coat, walking stick, and check out those plaid pants. 🙂 On the right is a blurry image of a young boy that you are probably wondering why I included him. Well, it turns out that Andrew Basiago has claimed that in 1972 he was transported in time back to this day and that he was photographed among the crowd as a young boy, shown here. Basiago claimed that when he got there, he had no shoes, so he ended up with a pair far too large. And sure enough, if you look closely, it does appear the boy's shoes are much too large. I suspect that is why this alleged chrono Naut picked this individual as his character-it fit his narrative. 🙂

Think the interesting looking character in the photograph (bottom left) by adopting the pose of an extrovert and wearing the flamboyant attire, might be some type of huckster.

Are we to assume Lincoln is on the left and if so, i can't make that connection myself but still trying. the guy claiming to have gone back in time is great!

These are magnified crops, Lincoln is in the one with the 5 soldiers and the "time traveler" kid, but not in either frame. Here is the original image on which I pointed out Lincoln with an arrow. As you can see, he is unrecognizable without magnifying which is what you see in the bottom crop from this photo. As far as I know, this is the only photo in which Lincoln is confirmed to be seen.

This must be governor Curtin of PA on the right with the curly hair looking nobly towards Lincoln, having just consumed that masterpiece of a speech, below the break in the plate/print?

I always find it interesting the concept of people giving and listening to a speech to a large audience without any sort of voice amplification. As a guy who has a mind which constantly starts going to dark places with sidebar conversations at every single Civil War tour I go to, I have to imagine grown adults knew how to shut up and listen back then. At least that's how I like to imagine it.
