What are the better resources for information about North Carolina Uniforms. Let me start with:

This magazine has a good article on the subject, Uniforms of the Confederacy 'North Carolina State Issue Uniforms, `1861-1865', by Richard Warren. The article includes the 8 page Regulations for the Uniform Dress and Equipment's of the Volunteers and State Troops of North Carolina and goes on to discuss the various paragraphs of the regulation. Mr. Warren also includes 5 black and white images of the uniforms issued by North Carolina. This magazine is a bit hard to find but does have a nice article.

I have found the best source for descriptions of Confederate uniforms to be the Adolphus Confederate Uniform website. However, I do not think that the research includes North Carolina manufactured uniforms.

The Company of Military Historians have two uniform plates in their Military Uniforms in America: North Carolina State Troop and Volunteers. 1861 (Plate No. 894) and Guilford Grays, North Carolina Militia, 1860 (Plate No. 127). North Carolina has less Military Uniforms in America plates than most other Confederate states and is probably under represented. One need to remember that the Company of Military Historians Military Uniforms in America series of uniform plates is based on what members submit so perhaps Civil War era North Carolina uniforms is not of interest to any of our members, or at least not any member who is willing to send in a North Carolina uniform plate to be published.
