Chattanooga: Rosecrans & Grant vs. Bragg
In the Fall of 1863, both armies sought to control Chattanooga, the gateway to the Confederacy. They clashed first in September near a creek called "Chickamauga." The Confederates, reinforced by the timely arrival of two divisions from the Army of Northern Virginia, won that contest. The route of the Federals drove them back into the city of Chattanooga. In withdrawing, Rosecrans failed to secure the high ground surrounding Chattanooga and quickly found that his supply line was compromised. Supplies had to follow a torturous path into Chattanooga and the potential capitulation of the Federals may have become a real possibility. But then entered Union Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, changing the tide of history. Historian Norm Dasinger, Jr., simplifies the complex Battles for Chattanooga and shares stories of interesting characters that fought.CivilWarTalk Presents:

@Norman Dasinger Jr is a member of the faculty for Blue & Gray Education Society and a resident of Rainbow City, Alabama. His interest in the Civil War began in the early 1980's when he and his father began researching their family history. Finding several ancestors who were participants on both sides of the conflict, they set out to see the battlefields they had fought upon, a journey that led to multiple states. Mr. Dasinger studied local battlefields in Georgia and Alabama and became active in interpreting them for various organizations. He continues to enjoy showing people the deep and rich history of locations in his state and surrounding areas. Mr. Dasinger regularly leads tours for Blue & Gray Education Society and, in 2018, he provided his services as guide for the CivilWarTalk member event at Chickamauga.
Make plans now to join us for Mr. Dasinger's virtual presentation on (almost) the 158th anniversary of the Battles for Chattanooga.
