Hi all.

I'd like to tap your collective brains on something if you don't mind. I'm working on a novel that features a Confederate special ops team. The story fits into the sci-fi genre, but I'm trying to root it into true history as much as possible

How is it science fiction?

Hm. I thought of one. The monitor USS Weehawken sank at anchor off Charleston on April 6, 1863, killing 24-30 of her crew. The official reason assigned was that the vessel was loaded in such a way that her trim was off, and then some unusual waves came in and swamped her, so the loss was ruled as accidental.

How is it science fiction?

Good question, Battalion. The special ops team uses technology that in actuality did not exist (but could have, with a little bit of stretching and imagineering). If you've heard of steampunk, the story would most likely fall into that category.
