I for one would be willing to volunteer my time to interpret handwritten stuff from Civil War Pension files if the scanned documents were only posted online. Familysearch.org is already doing something very much like that worldwide on documents in the possession of the LDS genealogy people.

I would too....I've seen sites where they do just that with census records.
