New rules are here, they are posted in the "One Thread to Rule Them All" in each forum.
The Secession & Politics forum is now called Secession, Politics, & Debates (Moderated).
We will use prefixes to determine how each thread is used, and color coding to help determine the level of discussion you should expect inside.
Green will be normal discussions, no moderation should be needed, any confrontations should be reported to moderators.
Orange is for moderated debating, here we watch what you say, and try to keep the discussion civilized, but also let you say stuff you might not be able to say in a Green discussion. If a green discussion needs to be moved to orange, it will be moved to the Debate forum.
Red discussions are our Limited Debates, these are for the topics that are heated, and we know that the discussion can rage out of control. We will usually put time limits or other rules or constraints on these discussions. However, these are also the types of discussions we used to ban previously, so this is something new.
All Community Guidelines and Forum Rules are still in effect.
(I am going to recommend that we loosen our moderation on modern references just a little bit, as long as you aren't referencing offensive topics like Nazis and whatnot. Try to stay in the 1800's, but an occasional modern reference to a modern thing or event shouldn't bring the delete button every single time.)
Here are the full rules that I posted, they are open to revision.

------------------------
There are different kinds of threads in this forum, please follow this guide to Thread Prefixes!
The following discussions can be created in the General History Forum:
- DISCUSSION: A place to have a friendly discussion about any Civil War subject, not a place for a debate. Threads with no PREFIX are considered discussions.
- OPEN DEBATE: A place to have a friendly debate. This doesn't have to be a structured format, just a polite conversation is fine! Show the forum how it's done!
The following discussion type can be created in either General History Forum or Secession, Politics, & Debates (Moderated)
- COUNTERPOINT: This is for topics that have some amount of disagreement between sides. Two threads are created, and in the first post of each the other Counterpoint thread is linked and the topic is listed. Each side will be able to discuss their side without interference from the other. Quoting is NOT allowed. A Counterpoint thread may be created either by request of a member, or by a moderator as needed as topics are created.
The following discussions will always be moved to the Session, Politics, & Debates (Moderated)
- RESTRICTED DEBATE: This is a Moderated discussion format for discussions that require oversight. Topics might include: slavery, black confederates, secession, any 1860's era political discussions, and other topics as needed. This type of discussion will be moved to a Moderated Forum if it was started in the wrong place.
- LIMITED DEBATE: These are Moderated & Time Limited discussions for highly contentious subjects. Topics would include: Confederate Flags, Removal of Monuments, and Modern Politics as it relates to the American Civil War. This type of discussion will be moved to a Moderated Forum if it was started in the wrong place.
