I have been told MAC's have face recognition software. Wonder if, for example, my gr-gr-grandfather's picture was compared with this batch of pictures they could find a match. I find it hard to believe he did not have a picture taken or one that survived within the family.

Also would be nice if in the treasure trove there were more regiment pictures as well.

It is my view that war is caused by old men and that young men die in the wars they cause.

When my platoon was tagged to go to Iraq in the first Iraq War (Desert Storm), all I could see was how young the boys were in my section that was tagged to go. 19 and 20 years old, and me, 37. I was the third oldest main in my battaion of 500, the battalion commander and one other 1st sergeant being older.

That they were picked to go and were excited and happy at the prospect of "going to war" made me angry.

Luckly, our deployment was cancelled as all efforts at such were halted when Desert Storm kicked off.

I underwent the same fellings when US forces were deployed into Bosnia after I had retired. My daughter had enlisted and become a medic, and there was a chance she might have to go into the middle of that bloody mess. Thank God she is out and raising our grandchildren for us.

But everytime I watch the nightly news or read my Army Times, and see the young faces of the men and women who have to defend us, I shake my head in disgust. Not at them. Never at them. At us and the other old folks who need and require them to go into harm's way.

Yes, I do appreciate it Tin cup. This will get a lot of use in my history classes (and I think I'll send that photo to Jared....who knows, might be his gggrandfather who lived to a ripe old age and was behind the stone wall at Fredericksburg!)
