I am attempting to find this individual George Henry May(s). The photo shows the Co D 9th Conf or Cav it looks like the left (right as viewed) side has been altered. Though he is said to have died in the Conf. Vet home. I have looked on NPS and Fold3. Any ideas?

It does not appear there would be enough space to insert the letters 'n' and 'f' on the obscured bit of the marker.

Nevertheless, looks like George H. May was a member of Co. D, 19th (Biffle's) TN Cavalry CSA, a unit more widely known in the field as Biffle's 9th TN Cavalry.

Thank you all for the help! may I ask how you did it? So in the future I might do the same.

Check out the Pension application (# 2375) for G.H. May at the Oklahoma Department of Libraries website :
https://digitalprairie.ok.gov/digital/collection/pensions/id/572/rec/4445

Click the "View" button at the top and it will take you to 9 pages of application and affidavits. The War Department couldn't find any record of his service in the Confederate army but he had two signed affidavits from veterans who stated that they had served with May in the 9th Tenn Cavalry.

May got his pension.
