Though you may laugh at my request for help in transcribing what looks like an impossible text. The following image is what seems to be a discharge letter for my ancestor. This record is from Fold 3: https://www.fold3.com/image/68855131
You can zoom in on Fold 3 if anyone else has a subscription.
I cant read cursive that well. Also The text is very light and hard to read. If anyone could help with the transcription of this record it would be much appreciated.
Maynard, A A.jpg

A daunting task. Tomorrow, when I can get home and access my fold3 account, I'll see if I can increase the contrast and bring it up any clearer. I doubt it though. Really need to have the original in hand.

The best person to help with your project would be @lelliott19! She is "Paper Whisperer" who can reveal all that is written.
The Belle from Bama will be along!
Regards
David

Here's a start:

1st line: Certificate to be given a soldier at the time of his discharge.
2nd line: I certify that the within named A.A. Maynard a private of Capt M - and I can't read the remainder of the line
Looks like the spelling of 'Maynard' within the text might be written as 'Mainard'.

reason of the provisions of an act of Congress passed April the 16th 1862 rendering said

The said A. H. Mainard has (illegible) of pay to include the 10th day of March
1862 & has pay due him from that time to the present date.
There is due him
Given in duplicate at camp near Shelbyville Tennessee this 10th day of January 1863

Thank you very much for your help. I have been trying to read this forever. His name is A A Maynord (sometimes spelled Mainord especially on documents of others writing his last name) He was in the 55th Browns TN but was transferred to the 6th TN Infantry and was discharged after a long sickness.

Glad to help out! You should be able to get the exact spelling of the officers' names from other records then - I wasn't sure and just noted those as illegible.
