(I would like to make it clear that I am not related to this man, I bought the document about 2 years ago and have been meaning to get around to it and verifying it)
Around 2 years ago I bought an invalid pension document dated December 20th, 1861 from a soldier whose name is "Henry Kellogg" who was apart of the 2nd Regiment Michigan Volunteers. It is signed by the Secretary of the Interior, Caleb. B Smith, who was secretary form 1861-1863. Im not sure wether he is directly related to the Kellogg family who founded the company but the chances are relatively high.

Found below relevant official extract from 'Record of Service of Michigan Volunteers in the Civil War (1861-1865)' at page 101.

Kellogg, Henry, Berrian County
Enlisted in company E, Second Michigan Infantry, as First Sergeant, April 17, 1861, at Niles, for 3 years, age 32.
Mustered May 25, 1861.
Discharged for disability at Ft. Lyon, VA., Dec. 1, 1861.
Shot and killed the first rebel, who threw a stone at the train on which his regiment was leaving Baltimore, Md., en route to Washington, D.C., on June 9, 1861.

Don't think that Henry Kellogg (born 1829) was directly related to the founders of the food company, that was later known as 'Kelloggs'.

The Company founders were William Keith Kellogg (born 1860) and his brother, John Harvey Kellogg (born 1852). Their father was John Preston Kellogg (born 1806). John Preston Kellogg had no siblings or children with the given name of Henry Kellogg.

(see https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/15330834/john-preston-kellogg ).

It appears that Henry was neither the father, an uncle nor a sibling of the Kelloggs founders.

Bottom line - Henry was neither the father nor an uncle of the founders of the Kellogg Food Company.
Thank you for the info. While I am disappointed that he wasn't related, it is nice to have it cleared up.
