Just Bought the Movie Prop Revolutionary war Howitzer Cannon used in the movies The Patriot, 1776, April Morning,The Crossing, Glory, Pirates of the Caribbean and Gettysburg just to name a few. Under the barrel the movies it was used were written by the movie industry.

The question I posed is I need to build the field artillery carriage for it I need to get an idea of how tall the wheels are and with the barrel is 6 ft long 8in on the bore.
How long is the case on 8 ft 10 ft how tall are the wheels 50 in 44 in is it a single tail or a split tail? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm trying to figure out if this is supposed to be an 18th century replica of some kind. If it is, it sure isn't a British or French 8 in. howitzer. It kind of looks like a British heavy 12 lb gun. It's in the ballpark on tube length but the bore is too large. In any event, if it's 18th century it's presumed to have a bracket trail. The Brits didn't start phasing in the block trail until the 1790's or so (even though it appears to have been invented c. 1780).

If you could post some clearer photos to include the cascabel end. Need to see just what type cannon it is in order to determine carriage type. I have built a few and the wheels will be determined by type and weight.

I should add that if it's supposed to be a 12 lb late 18th century Brit gun, the carriage for the "heavy" aka "medium" gun had wheels that were 4' 8" diameter. (Those dimensions are technically for the early "block"/"single" trail). Same for the limber.

Considering it appears to a replica of a ca. 1700s type, perhaps a reprint of Mueller's Treatise of artillery could be of assistance.
Mueller's Treatise intro.

Here's the full text (but not plates). You might compare the dimensions of the barrel to those in the book to find something similar:

Mueller's text; Google books..

There is a reprint in softcover floating about...
Good find. It's important to remember that Muller - even the "revised" editions - was actually out of date by the AWI (but still was widely used).
