Believe me, I know. It was a proprietary thing in his saloon, of course, and when he came up with a new concoction he would bring samples by the newspaper office. It's brilliant marketing.

I have no idea what was in it, but it "lingers on the palate like the memory of a dream of paradise and the houris."

I really have no idea. The specific ingredients on the recipe above (I think) came along later. The ice would be be a somewhat exotic touch in that time and place.
