Hi All,
I need some help (once again) deciphering a naval repair invoice.

Invoice for decipherrment.jpg

1. Cartages? What are these?
2. Dec- Making one Brass __________???
3. I cannot make out anything meaningful from the first line at the bottom of the invoice (above James Tomb name). Thoughts???

If I may ask sir - what is this invoice in reference to? From whom / to whom etc...

Thanks,
USS ALASKA

Wikipedia:

In mechanical engineering, an eccentric is a circular disk (eccentric sheave) solidly fixed to a rotating axle with its centre offset from that of the axle (hence the word "eccentric", out of the centre)
I presume this is part of the reduction gear assembly- transferring power from the small twin cylinder engine to the shaft

So the 'cartages' might involve the movement of the supplies from 12 Columbus Street to wherever the David was perhaps?

USS ALASKA
Quite possibly. I assume this is the transport of the iron plate, which was supposed to have been installed at Atlantic wharf, about a mile south of the Eason and Brother foundry... although they were building ironclads and I am not sure if that was happening at the foundry or at one of the wharves. There was supposed to be a rebel shipyard at the entrance to Town Creek- very close to the Eason and Brother foundry.

I was thinking it was the eccentric used for gear reduction, but could also be for converting engine motion.
It is the most expensive single item on the list. Not sure brass is strong enough for driving something, but it would be strong enough for something like valve control.
