I only like rum in mojitos or pina coladas, so cheers to National Rum Day - mateys!
Oh, and let's not forget the original pirate drink of grog - a mix of water, rum and spices.
In the 18th century the British admiral Edward Vernon, nicknamed, Old Grog named so for the grogram (it's a silk/wool combo) fabric of his cloak, tried to prevent scurvy by serving his sailors a pint of rum daily. The dark Navy rum did nothing to prevent scurvy, but did leave everyone quite tipsy. Realizing hung over sailors weren't an asset anymore than scurvy-riddled seamen Vernon issued a captain's order that all rum should be mixed with water, a bit of brown sugar and lime to make it less potent and more palatable. The watered down run wasn't a big hit, hence the weakened drink was nicknamed after it's creator - grog.
Modern Day Grog Recipe -

Signing sea shanties is optional while brandishing the mug, but appreciated
