I've read a lot of the posts on Forrest don't know if I've missed it but can anyone tell what happened to his son who I believe enlisted as a 15 yr old at the same time as Nathan Bedford Forest

Something that I've read, and seems to have been dropped through the cracks of the floor on Willie Forrest, is that his mother being very religious, his father saw to it during the war he was around churchly fellows and admonished him to not be like him. A swearing gambler...

That being said, I personally have a lot of scorn for Willie Forrest. That idiot completely disregarded his father and mother's wishes to be buried in Elmwood Cemetery next to his sister, and Forrest's men, for a park and statue. Even after Bedford was pretty clear in his last will and testament. NBF being more or less humble is part of what made him great, and his own son disregarded his father's wishes for a large chunk of bronze and tourism, with what few survivors of that family still sticking to Willie's philosophy. One that's landed both his parents in big trouble, and having to be moved out of Memphis period soon.

Forgive me for having an axe to grind with that imbecile, and it really doesn't help that just today I was having even more problems with the SCV leadership on the matter of the third funeral and their, so far to my eyes, terrible incompetence in handling it.

Can anybody throw more light on Nathan B Forrest's illegitimate son, also (confusingly) called William who was born in 1870 and died in Jamaica in 1954 ? Children of this William survived to great ages, the last dying in Jamaica in 2019.

Forrest came off to me as an agnostic for most of his life, he obviously wasn't very churchy when he became the family breadwinner. But boy did he sure like religious women.

I've no idea. I halfway suspect maybe this story wasn't around back in the day and invented in our current era. The story of current claimants to direct Forrest ancestry is something we can't get into openly, but suffice to say there's some dirty dealing happening now because of it. Oh and there are no direct descendants, no matter the claims.

There are no MALE direct descendants sir, but there ARE direct descendants from Mary Bradley's line. None of them have the sir name "Forrest" of course. Mary Bradley (my 2nd cousin, 2x removed) had 5 children, all of whom lived well into adulthood, and they are the last living direct descendants of Bedford Forrest.

As far as the claim of an illegitimate child, I would have SERIOUS doubts about that. Bedford adored his wife, Mary Ann and from all accounts, was a deeply devoted family man. Also, in 1869/70, his health was beginning to decline due to diabetes which eventually killed him in 1877.

That's pretty much what I was getting to. Discussing certain things on family is a no no, thus probably why I didn't get more into it. The claim of an illegitimate child has been something I've crusaded against. Not to mention been crucified for.

Forgive me if I'm not very direct, the entire subject, especially with the sham of a reinternment and the disgraceful actions by some at National have made the subject distasteful to me.
