Forrest's is an exceptionally well done drawing by the looks of things, and one of the best images I've seen in terms of capturing the man. Those eyes could really look right through you. Mary Ann, on the other hand has a far away look in her eyes as she looks away from the camera. Makes you wonder what she's thinking ...

I've never really seen a picture of Mary Ann before. She's quite serene. And Forrest, as usual, is intense.

This is Mariam Beck Forrest Luxton - Forrest's mom. On the back of the brooch this photo is inside is this picture:

I just showed my wife that picture of Forrest and Mary Ann. I also told her the story of the two dandies who wouldnt help. And how Forrest "persuaded" them to run off when he came courting. She really could care less about the civil war, but she thought this was "So Romantic".

This is Mary Ann Forrest, Forrest's wife with her grandson Nathan Bedford Forrest II. The other one is, as mentioned before, Mom! It's from a locket and the reverse of it has her second husband, Forrest's stepfather John Luxton. (Might be James.) Mary Ann is probably in her late 40s in this picture, believe it was taken some time after her husband's death.

Miriam Forrest is quite an interesting lady on her own. My favorite story of her is popping a Union soldier in the nose because he insulted her - at 6 feet and 185lbs, she packed enough wallop to land him on his rear! He remembered his manners thereafter...

Miriam was always a fighter and always very stubborn. She had 8 sons in the war.

So handsome and chivalrous to boot! I guess my favorite cartoon as a toddler ruined my chances of ever wanting to be a total feminist.
