Natchez,MS

Niblett's Bluff Park is outside of Vinton,Louisiana and is right on the Sabine River, along the Texas/Louisiana border. In wartime, there was a steamboat landing there. The Confederate Camp there was a pretty important Trans-Mississippi installation. Went to the river when I got there. The Sabine River was way up too.

My original plan had been to go Niblett's Bluff Park early on a Friday in January when there might not have been many people there but it didn't work out. There are some surviving remnants of the CW earthworks/breastworks there. I wanted to photograph them when there wasn't many/any people there. I did manage to get one good pic back in October from outside the park grounds. Just gonna post a few from this trip from inside the park grounds.

In pic #1 in post 244 above you can see a cemetery entrance on the left side of the pic. We did not get to go there in October. In fact,I did not know it was there until October. On this last trip I intended to go there. When I was walking the river bank,I could see the cemetery through the brush and could see Confederate flags. That really got my chest a thumpin'.

When I left the cemetery,I drove down the Old Confederate Military Road for a few miles just to see if there were any markers or monuments but didn't see any. I turned around and headed home. It was a great trip. I did a lot and saw a lot from Thursday afternoon-Saturday afternoon. Thanks for looking.

The ship's bell of the USS Mississippi CGN-40 can be seen in the gardens at Rosalie Mansion, on the site of Fort Rosalie overlooking the Mississippi River.

I had not seen it mentioned in this thread and wanted to let y'all know.

David
I'm not sure where that is. Hadn't heard of it before. Something more to do now.

Rosalie Mansion is one of the beautiful ante-bellum homes opened to the public in Natchez. Highly recommended.

Yeah. I looked it up. Definitely on the itnerary for the next Natchez trip. I think my spouse would like that too.

Great pics and enjoyed following, it's always good to get ideas for upcoming trips.
Thank you sir. I had a blast and it was a timely road trip too. Came home tired and very refreshed at the same time. Took my spouse, daughter and granddaughters out for a nice family dinner when I got home.
