The of Military Historians Convention in Nashville is coming up in May so I need to start preparing for the classes I want to go to. So here is my problem. They have two seminars going on at the same time and I will have to choose which one to go to. Most are easy to pick but a couple are harder and I might want to study up on the subject.

I think Greg Wade and The Retreat from Nashville, December 17, 1864 is a lock in. Does anyone know of Greg Wade of the Franklin CWRT? I will probably go if he is interesting. this is a subject I know little about and could read up on it a bit. So I guess I will not see The Remains of Four American Soldiers from the Mexican War.

This one is harder. I am thinking of U.S. Western Officer's Uniforms in the War of 1812 because I like uniform. However Dr. Jerry Wooten is giving the Supply Depot at Johnsonville TN, 1864 at the same time. So is Dr. Wooten a great speaker? I think Forrest had something to do with the Johnsonville Depot. I do not know much about Johnsonville Depot and could study up on it. Still Uniforms of 1812 sounds very good.

The remains of the four American soldiers from the Mexican War does sound interesting to me, but I am into archaeology. I know the uniforms from the War of 1812 might be interesting, but it's not my war. I like the Mexican War.

Johnsonville was a main supply depot for the Union Army in West central Tennessee, was located on the Tennessee River and was the river to rail connection to feed supplies to Nashville. Forrest attacked it on November 4th 1864 and through Forrest's efforts (and to a degree those of the Union) it was destroyed. An additional sidelight to this was for a time, Forrest used a captured Union gunboat to have his own navy.

I eould pick the one on Johnsonville even though the title doesnt indicate it will be about Forrest's raid. But it should explain how they were supplying Sherman and the magnitude and cost of the destruction caused by Forrest.

I would like to learn more about the rear guard action following Nashville. I know General E C Walthall was involved. And while studying Gen Featherston's brigade, I discovered he was also.

Always tough choices from March-October. So much happening.

There retreat for Nashville is not something that is given to much exposure.
