Last Sunday through Tuesday i was in Gettysburg visiting the National Park. It was very moving. After years of reading about the battle i was finally there walking on the grounds.

I live in the midwest so we do not have such large, well preserved sites. I pray i get to come back many times.

Too bad that Little Round Top is closed. Hopefully, you will go back when the renovation is completed.

Looking forward to my visit later in the year. It will be my fourth CW battlefield. So far I've made Balls Bluff, Bull Run & Chickamagua. With the addition of Fords Theatre into the mix. You can't beat visiting these historic sites.

I picked up a reproduction Union kepi, haversack, and belt with a US buckel. My wife really does not like me wearing the kepi in public!
If having one, North or South, I would wear it as well! The hat does not make the man..

On your next trip East go to Antietam Battlefield in Sharpsburg, MD. It is a smaller area to cover, but it will still will take some time to do it justice. I would suggest staying in Frederick, MD and take old Route 40 from there - this will likely be the same directions given from any navigation system you use. By doing so you will take the route that the bulk of both armies followed and will also see the battlefield of South Mountain - a rear guard action fought two days before Antietam. The small towns that you will travel through, as well as the battlefield areas, are little changed and not over populated or heavily commercialized.

I have the same luck as my dad. He got to go in the rain, as did I. I did get to go to the old visitor's center. I didn't realize what a huge mess it was. Diorama.

Did walk past Mead's head quarters. Very nice horse there.

I ended up going to Shilo the same Sumner. That was more what I thought a field should be. Still holds up too.
