Not sure if it was brought up or not. I didn't see a recent post after a quick search. August 2nd is the anniversary of the passing of Albert Woolson. Many folks will argue he was not the last Civil War veteran but no one can deny he was pretty near the last one by any account passing in 1956. I found this touching article written by the prolific Civil War writer Bruce Catton for Life Magazine when Mr. Woolson passed. Enjoy.

I read an article in Blue and Gray Magazine (1991) The Great Imposters by William Marvel, that after much research, he disproved all of the claims by vets putting Pleasant Crump as the last verified Confederate vet dying 1951. This was proved by census data and other information. Marvel wrote that Woolson was the last real veteran of the Civil War. James A. Hard was the last surviving combat veteran of the war. He died in 1953.
