Most missed General?

I have to agree with Captindrew, Jackson and Reynolds head the list. Then I would add Stewart and Buford. After that we could argue all the way through a 5th of Kentucky's best.

Confederate:
A.S. Johnston
Stonewall Jackson
W. Dorsey Pender

Union:
Nathaniel Lyon
John Buford
James McPherson

I have wonder about Nathaniel Lyon. Had he lived it would have changed the war. I think Lyon was aggressive and we would have seen a much more aggressive war in the west, but I wonder about Lyon making good decisions.

There were many who were killed so early that they never had a chance to demonstrate what their military abilities really were. For all we know, Confederate Brigadier General Bernard Bee (famous to us only for giving Stonewall Jackson his nickname) would have turned out to be the greatest military genius in the history of the world had he not been killed at First Manassas.

Sooo... What are your picks?

A.S. Johnson His death changed the War in the Western Theater
Stonewall Jackson He fit so well with Lee
Jeb Stuart He die late, but was needed late in the war. His leadership could have helped make a difference during the final campaigns.

J. Reynolds Very confident leader, he was needed in the hard upcoming campaigns
Phil Kearny He was hard to replace
Israel Richardson He was a solid common sense leader who could have been of great service during the Overland Campaign and Siege of Richmond . Not a lot of flash but one who knew how to do his duty

Confederate:

Jackson. Lee's right arm. Gettysburg may have been a Confederate victory
Albert Sydney Johnston - he had Davis' ear and would have managed the midwest better than Bragg

Union:

John Reynolds
Sedgwick
McPherson
Kearny
