My wife and I are planning a vacation trip to Virginia and North Carolina. We were planning to visit James Madison's home, Montpelier, near Orange, VA, and I noted that on the way to Orange we would go right past Warrenton, where John Singleton Mosby's home stands.
I checked on the Internet and found several websites mentioning Mosby's home. The one that seemed most promising was www.mosbymuseum.org, so I went there to see if I could find information about the days and hours when the house would be open for visitation. However, the list of upcoming events on that website shows no events more recent than 2007.
I found that Mosby's home is located right next to the Warrenton-Fauquier County Visitors' Center, so I called the 800 number for the visitors' center and asked when Mosby's home would be open.
The nice lady at the visitors' center, Imogene, told me that, unfortunately, it isn't open, at least not for this year. They weren't been able to get anybody to staff the place.
Imogene said there is an exhibit about Mosby at the visitors' center and people who come to the visitors' center will be able to walk around the grounds and look at his home from the outside - but if you want to actually get inside, you're out of luck.
