From an e-mail sent by a friend (Mike Slate) I learned "A great-grandson of Major John and Sarah Buchanan (through their daughter, Jane Trindle Buchanan) was John Watson Morton, Jr. Mr. Morton was quite an interesting fellow in his own right. He was Chief of Artillery under Nathan Bedford Forrest during the Civil War, Tennessee's Secretary of State after the War, a physician, and an author. He wrote the book, The Artillery of Nathan Bedford Forrest's Calvary, which is an original source for Forrest studies."
We have been getting together both formally and informally to see what can be done about preserving the Buchanan Station cemetery, currently in private hands off Massman Drive in Nashville. There was once a log fort similar to Fort Nashborough, but all that remains is the cemetery. The fort was the scene of a battle between a few dozen settlers vs the Chickamauga Alliance in 1792. There were said to have been hundreds of Indians, but the defenders held.
