What did they hit something filled with gasoline? I like the explosion, but it looks like some fuel was involved in it.

It was a planned BOOM! They were shooting for accuracy and distance during the afternoon. This was the last shot of the day and I believe went just as they planned. I'm sure there was some liquid involved. It was fun watching the mortar rounds fly through the air.

This is a great image ... the contrast of the colourful flag with the black and white portrayal of the participants. I'd love to see this one in a re-enactors photo comp here. It would definitely get my vote!
