Hello. I am a hand bookbinder in Phoenix who just bought 2,147 new Morningside Press books. These are printed and sewn book blocks that were waiting for covers when Bob Younger died. I'm the third person to own the inventory - 10 titles in all - but the first person with a plan to finish them!
Question: Would you rather have high quality (sewn bindings) paperbacks in the $25 dollar range, or handsome, hardback books in covered in top grade cloth for $39 - $49?

For me personally, it depends on the title. If it is a title I am really interested in and will be studying carefully, I opt for hardcover. If it is a title of more marginal interest to me, I settle for the paperback. Please keep us posted on the project, I own several of the Morningside titles (e.g., the Bachelder papers, which were beautifully done in hard cover). Good luck with the project!

Thank you! I'm looking forward to starting this afternoon on History of the Bucktails!

I'm on a very tight budget but would rather have one hardcover than two paperbacks, as a rule. Even with gentle use, paperbacks tend to look worn out after a single read-through in my opinion.

Interested in the titles you have, wish that Bearss Vicksburg titles had been part of that.

As a librarian, I can definitely vote for hardcover. They just wear better. That's not to say that we don't have paperbacks in our collections though. If it were me, I would be maybe 1/3 in paper and the rest in hardcover.

Here is the list of Morningside unbound books that I bought - 2,147 of them! Quantities differ by title.

The first book I am binding for resale is Bucktails. It is in a hardcover in a rich, black cotton cloth, made to resemble period leather bindings. It will have titles stamped in gold on the spine and a black reading ribbon. This is the uniform binding that all of the books will be in.

I am down for
The Mississippi Brigade of Brigadier General Joseph R. Davis: A Geographical Account of Its Campaigns and a Biographical Account of Its Personalities, 1861-1865

David
