They haven't come up too often but I've seen Iowa plates like these before. They were believed to be hat pins

I've seen a bunch of fake ones made by one guy who added patina to them and they are very hard to distinguish from the originals. I'd be wary unless I witnessed them come out of the ground

It's so exhausting that nearly anything in this collecting field is faked. Or anything in any field for that matter.

These looks right and I have seen several dug one from Shiloh, OHIO has also been found. These were field made and nail to wagons, equipment etc before they were load on a transport for Pittsburg Landing and Shiloh so they could be ID when the transport landed. The yankees hard a big staging area setup for when the boats came in with the gear.
