More eBay items that are questionable

Item numbers 143548335847 & 143546791498 I do not believe can be proven to be Civil War originals. They both appear to be reproductions, with the Union piece heavily and artificially distressed.

I tried to report both items, but eBay has made it almost impossible to do so. Previous items sold by this seller are also very questionable and I do not believe can be proven original.

Regarding the forage cap, Greg Starbuck made a copy of a Virginia forage cap in the early 2000s. It has an identical lining. I own one and it's pretty evident to me that this is one of those with Federal buttons and artificial aging
It gets worse, a "medical" kepi complete with burn marks sold for $880, same seller
143537691622 and an absolutely bogus "Confederate" officer's slouch went for $670
143536986300. Seller only puts a couple on at a time and there are obvious torch marks on all. We used to burn off the fuzz off of our shell jackets to make them look more worn, this was back when a Charlie Child's kit had too much wooly fuzz.

I still can't believe that some moron bought that CS plate with the bullet for $300

Here's another dishonest seller. Every one of his civil war bullet in wood is a put together piece. Item # 372978937271. He figured he could drill a hole on a piece of wood, and insert a bullet. Not a single piece he has sold or listed has an impacted bullet. Look at his previous sales too.

I think ebay was discredited as a reliable source for relics a long time ago. I can see why they would make it impossible to report a fraudulent item, they wouldn't get a piece of the cake if it was taken down.

I've never used ebay, although lots of good stuff is out there to buy. I just don't trust some of the civil war stuff people are pushing. Like a wise man once told me, "If you don't dig it yourself, then you'll never know if it's truly authentic".

Unfortunately there are very good sellers and items on eBay, but the recent wave of audacity is appalling, costing the buyer thousands. I have recently picked up some very good pieces of cloth on the bay for next to nothing, dead real. Maybe this preponderance of fakes drives down the value of legitimate pieces?
